The Cable Supported, Folding Fabric Roof Systems Project, completed at the West Walk Shopping Mall in the Al Wahab region of Qatar, was implemented by Tensaflex Flexible Solutions in 2024.

The project emerged as a result of a search for a solution that would support existing air conditioning systems in order to obtain temperature-controlled streets at West Walk Shopping Mall, which has open air areas and long walking paths.

Retractable shading systems, when used together with air conditioning systems, are system solutions that provide both thermal comfort in open-air shopping malls and reduce the energy load of air conditioners, thus reducing operating costs.

In the project, cable-supported, folding panels consisting of 35 modules with 4 m width, 36 m and 57 m length were produced, covering a total area of 7,000 m2. The system was mounted from building to building. Stainless steel ropes and fire and flame-resistant PVC, B1 class fabrics were preferred for a long-lasting structure in the project.

The design, proposal, mock-up, technical material purchasing, planning, production and assembly supervision of the project were carried out by Tensaflex Flexible Solutions.

Qatar West Walk Shopping Mall Cable Supported-Folding Shading Systems are an innovative alternative to stable shading systems.

A retractable shading system offers extra benefits as seeing the sky besides protecting from the sun.

Thanks to the sun and wind sensors used in the Qatar West Walk Shopping Mall Project, and system is operated automatically, eliminating human control. 

The system is connected to the BMS (Building Management System), any malfunction that may occur in the motors can be sent as a warning to the shopping mall management.

The cable supported, folding shading systems used in the Qatar West Walk Shopping Mall Project are retractable fabric roof systems that meet the shading needs of facilities and areas with wide openings such as shopping malls, concert and event areas, pool covering and walking street covering. 

Cable-supported systems, which are an efficient and effective method generally used in retractable roof and shading systems, can also be scaled for small areas such as residences, etc.
