Ed Robson Arena, designed by JLG Architecture, is more than just a sports facility. This sustainable, ultra-modern structure serves as a versatile meeting point for Colorado College students and the residents of Colorado Springs, known as America's Olympic city.
Completed in 2021, Ed Robson Arena's architecture emphasizes transparency, reflecting a design line in harmony with the surrounding built environment and the natural landscape dominated by mountains. The rhythmic arrangement of natural materials, combined with a balanced composition of transparency and solidity, gives the façade a serene and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Transparency also remains appealing in interior design. With the strategic placement of durlum MESH expanded metal ceilings, the spaciousness of the brightly painted interior is amplified, creating a light-filled, expansive entrance area. The large triangular surfaces of the durlum MESH expanded metal ceilings are interwoven with durlum OMEGA 63 lighting channels, enhancing the dynamic character of the ceiling. This unique arrangement gives the ceiling an almost weightless and floating appearance. Furthermore, the durlum OMEGA 63 lighting channels form a complex and technologically sophisticated infrastructure. In other parts of the arena, the dark gray durlum MESH expanded metal ceilings emphasize the lightness and transparency of this new venue. It is set to host regional, national, and international events as part of the City of Champions initiative.
