The Garmisch-Partenkirchen Hospital (formerly known as the "Blue Hospital" in the 1960s) underwent an extensive renovation to create a sustainable, efficient, and warm atmosphere. The renovation successfully transformed the hospital into a modern healthcare facility, seamlessly integrating sustainable design elements, efficient lighting solutions, and a harmonious ambiance.
The renovation project by Ludes Architecture focused on optimizing the functionality of the main corridor area while maximizing the use of natural light. By thoughtfully integrating natural materials and innovative lighting solutions, the project achieved both aesthetic excellence and significant energy efficiency. The installation of durlum's LIGHT PIPE Daylighting systems (49 units) enables optimal natural light harvesting while effectively preventing heat accumulation. Advanced Fresnel diffusers positioned at the upper terminus of these systems ensure homogeneous light distribution, creating a natural, eye-friendly indoor environment. The anodized aluminum lighting systems provide an elegant contrast to the predominantly brown interior palette.
During nighttime and low-light periods, PUNTEO®-J85 LED recessed lights gently illuminate the main corridor with a peaceful glow. Their wide-beam distribution ensures optimal lighting while blending seamlessly into the ceiling. This thoughtful design using durlum products transforms the corridor from a simple passageway into a calming, transitional space.
