The Korntal Municipal Hall project in Germany, completed in June 2017, was an architectural achievement supervised by Knopp Architekten with lighting planned by IB-Schwarz Ingenieurbüro für Elektrotechnik. The building, constructed mainly from glass, wood, and natural stone, was renovated as part of a fire protection initiative. Durlum introduced a new combination of ceiling lights in the process.

The centerpiece of this renovation is the Schillersaal (Schiller Hall), a grand room named after one of Germany's most renowned authors. It was remodeled with a striking fireproof MESH expanded metal ceiling, taking the place of the original wooden one. The design features numerous linear metal elements in a range of sizes, integrating the ceiling smoothly into the wall panels. The refreshed open ceiling design allows easy access to technical installations like fire alarms and wiring for maintenance. It also lends a semi-transparent quality to the tent-like roof structure, with a free cross-section of 50%.

The impact of Durlum's MESH expanded metal ceilings and OMEGA 63 LED lighting channels on the interior design project is clear. Their innovative, modern, and adaptable design significantly contributes to the creative execution.

Lighting was a key aspect in this renovation project. The grid lighting was replaced with OMEGA 63 LED lighting channels, which span the ceiling like a spider's web. These dimmable lights, some of which also serve as emergency lighting, are adaptable to any situation. They do more than just provide essential lighting; they also contribute to the overall design aesthetic as these luminaire channels form the supporting profile of the MESH expanded metal ceiling's sub-frame.
